Empowering Healing: Launch of Trauma Circles for South Asian Women

We at Bollyfit Active CIC are proud to announce the launch of Trauma Circles, a transformative initiative designed specifically for South Asian women. This innovative programme has been developed in collaboration with Dignifi Ltd (visit Dignifi Ltd to learn more) and Manchester City Council, showcasing our shared commitment to addressing trauma and empowering women within the South Asian community.

Why Trauma Circles?

Many South Asian women live with the weight of unspoken trauma, often feeling unable to access support due to cultural stigma, societal expectations, or a lack of safe spaces. Trauma Circles were created to address this need, providing a supportive, culturally sensitive environment where women can share their stories and embark on their healing journeys.

A Collaborative Success

This initiative exemplifies the power of partnership. Dignifi Ltd brought its expertise in trauma-informed care, shaping the structure of Trauma Circles to maximise their impact. As part of its mission to create a trauma-informed city, Manchester City Council generously sponsored the initiative and provided invaluable resources, ensuring that it reaches women across Greater Manchester.

Training South Asian Facilitators

A core achievement of this initiative is the empowerment of local women. We have successfully trained four South Asian women as Trauma Circle facilitators. With their unique insights and professional training, these remarkable individuals are now equipped to lead sessions, fostering healing and resilience within their communities.

What Are Trauma Circles?

Trauma Circles are facilitated spaces designed to nurture healing and empowerment. Tailored to South Asian cultural contexts, they offer a unique opportunity for women to connect and grow.

Each session is:

  • Facilitated by trained professionals, including the newly qualified South Asian facilitators.

  • Confidential and supportive, ensuring participants feel safe and valued.

  • Culturally responsive, addressing the specific needs and experiences of South Asian women.

Building a Trauma-Informed City

This initiative supports Manchester City Council’s vision of creating a trauma-informed city, where individuals and communities are empowered to address trauma with understanding and compassion. By breaking the silence surrounding trauma, we aim to inspire healing not only for individuals but also for families and wider communities.

"Through today's trauma awareness training, I've gained a clear understanding of what trauma is and how it affects my own life. I'm grateful for the awareness and the practical elements provided on how to let go of trauma or manage it better. This training has truly opened my eyes and given me valuable tools for my journey." " I just wanted to say that the trauma training sessions was absolutely wonderful. All the trainers did an amazing job delivering the session in a culturally appropriate manner. The session was incredibly informative and something our Asian community really needs to understand what trauma is and how we can heal together. I also found it very brave that you all shared your stories. It's amazing to see how you are using your experiences to help others heal now. Thank you for today."
