Belonging Before Behaviour Change

A culturally responsive women's health and wellbeing model, developed in the UK, now exploring partnerships across the Gulf.

Supporting women's health, fitness and wellbeing

Bollyfit Active works with women who often sit outside mainstream fitness and wellbeing provision — not because they lack motivation, but because most provision was never built with them in mind.

We are exploring partnerships across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf — with gyms, community organisations, healthcare partners and education providers who share that same goal.

Who are Bollyfit?

Bollyfit Active is a UK-based women's health, fitness and wellbeing organisation, founded by Shamime Jan and built through years of grassroots work with women — particularly South Asian and culturally diverse communities.

We are not simply taking fitness classes overseas. We are bringing a culturally responsive women's health and wellbeing model that can develop local women, build local capacity, and create sustainable impact.

Our work in the Gulf is at an early stage. We are developing relationships and speaking with potential partners across the region, with interest already shown by charities and community organisations, alongside conversations exploring commercial partnerships.

Why Bollyfit

A class alone rarely changes how a woman moves, eats or looks after her health long-term. What tends to determine whether she stays is simpler, and harder to design for: whether she feels she belongs there.

Many women disengage from mainstream fitness and wellbeing provision — not from lack of interest, but because the environment, the format or the culture around it was not built with them in mind.

Bollyfit Active was built to close that gap: combining culturally responsive movement, community connection, confidence-building, health education and a pathway into local coaching and leadership.

The BELONG Method™

The framework spells out the word BELONG across six interconnected petals, centred around the goal to Belong, Engage, and Transform:

  • B – Belonging: Focuses on creating safe, women-only spaces.

  • E – Engagement: Encourages active participation within the community.

  • L – Lifestyle: Promotes healthy daily habits.

  • O – Ownership: Aims to empower participants to lead and take charge.

  • N – Nurture: Centres on mutual support and care.

  • G – Growth: Focuses on building personal confidence and overall wellbeing.
